Weber Genesis E-315 Gas Grill Review

Weber’s pitch for this grill is unusual, because it is a pitch about sameness. PureBlu burners are sold on consistent pressure, consistent flames and even heat.

Read the specification block for model 1500010 and nothing argues with that. Three stainless burners. A single input figure, 39,000 BTU per hour. No boosted pair, no named sear area, no hotter corner anywhere.

So the Genesis E-315 asks $899.00 on Weber’s own store. What it hands back is a plain, uniform field. What the money buys instead of a zone is the subject here.

First Impressions of the Weber Genesis E-315 Gas Grill

On gravel the E-315 reads as a long black sideboard. A stainless control panel runs the full width, with GENESIS set into it. Two side tables reach out past the cookbox on both sides.

The lid is porcelain-enameled and carries a built-in thermometer. Three knobs sit in a row. Same size, same color, same spacing. The panel gives no hint about where a steak belongs.

Look underneath and there are four casters, two of them locking. Weber lists no fixed wheels at all on this cart. At 162 pounds, that combination moves sideways as easily as forward.

The first cook confirms what the panel implies. Light all three burners and spread food across the 513 square inch grate. The whole surface behaves alike. Turning the left burner down is how a cooler side gets made here.

Key Features of the Weber Genesis E-315 Gas Grill

Most of the hardware on this cart is standard Weber, and it is well made. A Genesis is marked by its burner system, its field size and its warranty. The list below separates those from the parts every Weber has.

  • PureBlu burners: Weber fits three stainless burner tubes with a tapered shape. The published claim is consistent pressure and even heat across the entire grate. Raised gas ports sit above the point where debris falls, which Weber credits with fewer clogs. No burner here is boosted, and none is nominated for searing.
  • A 513 square inch primary grate: This is the surface that does the cooking. Weber counts 20 burgers or 17 steaks onto it. The published total of 640.5 square inches adds the top grate above.
  • Cast-iron: The cooking grates are porcelain-enameled cast iron. Their mass is the point when a cold steak arrives. Weber’s spec block calls them WEBER CRAFTED grates, while its own feature copy calls them neither.
  • Stainless steel: Stainless shows up twice here: in the burner tubes and in the Flavorizer bars. Weber’s account of them is that they catch drippings and steer grease off the tubes. Flare-up prevention is credited to the bars too, on Weber’s say-so alone. Both parts carry ten years of cover.
  • Electric Igniter: Ignition is electronic and runs on a single AA cell. Keep a spare somewhere dry, because a flat battery means finding a match.
  • Grease Management System: Fat collects in a tray below the cookbox. Pull it out, tip it, slide it back. Weber lists drip pans at $10.99 if you would rather line the thing.
  • Warming rack: The 127.5 square inch top grate keeps food hot and toasts buns. Weber files the feature under moving food to indirect heat. Small items can finish up there while the main course works below.
  • Cabinet with painted steel doors: The propane tank sits behind doors, out of the weather. Six tool hooks and two side tables surround it. Nothing folds away, so the 57.7 inch width is permanent.
  • WEBER CRAFTED compatibility: A Frame Kit at $49.99 opens this grill to the Crafted collection. Grillware then turns the grate into a pizza oven, a griddle or a Dutch oven. Each of those pieces lists at $99.99 and is sold on its own.

Heat and cooking performance

Divide before you judge the fire. Weber publishes 39,000 BTU per hour and a 513 square inch primary grate. Those two figures make a density of 76 BTU per square inch. We divided two published figures, and nobody put a probe on this grill.

The headline area on Weber’s page is 640.5 square inches, and that figure is generous. The top grate accounts for 127.5 of it. A warming rack holds food rather than cooking it. Weber files the difference under indirect heat, which is honest.

Split the input three ways and each burner is worth 13,000 BTU per hour. Weber never says the three differ, and lists no boosted burner anywhere. So two heats on this grate come from one knob turned down. Not from crossing a line somebody else drew.

Build, handling and durability

The cabinet is the part you touch most, and it is plain, competent steel work. Painted doors close over the tank. There are six tool hooks, and neither side table retracts. Weber publishes 57.7 inches of width, and that number does not change when the lid opens.

The lid is what catches people out, so check headroom first. Lid down, height is 48.1 inches and depth is 27. Open, it wants 63 inches and 30.6. Raising the hood costs 14.9 inches of headroom that an eave may block.

Then there is the rolling stock, which is genuinely unusual. Two swivel casters, two swivel locking casters, and nothing fixed. All four wheels turn, so 162 pounds of grill can be walked sideways through a gate. On any slope, set the two locks or it drifts.

Running costs, upkeep and value

On our check date the brand store carried an $899.00 sticker. Shipping and returns are free there above $99, with restrictions. The 20 pound tank comes from somewhere else, at your expense. Angi assembly is offered at $99 through Weber, on any grill above $399.

Read the warranty table and the tier starts explaining itself. The cookbox and the lid get twelve years, against rust and burn only. Everything living in the fire gets 10 years, grates and Flavorizer bars included. Remaining parts get 5 years, and that floor is the quiet part of the table.

Widening what this grill does costs extra, and Weber is open about it. The Crafted Frame Kit for Genesis lists at $49.99, and grillware runs $99.99 an item. Entry to the collection is therefore $149.98 before the grill has cooked a pizza.

Cleaning is undemanding, and mostly it is one drawer. Weber puts the grease tray below the cookbox, and it slides clear for emptying. The grates ask for more care than the tray does. Enamel is what protects the iron, and a chipped patch will corrode.

Possible Weber Genesis E-315 Gas Grill Complaints

  • The 12-year headline and the 2-year paint are the same warranty: Rust through and burn through are covered for 12 years on the cookbox and lid. Paint gets two years, and fading and discoloration are excluded even from that. The number protecting the metal and the number protecting the look are ten years apart. If year-three appearance matters, budget for the $99.99 cover at the same time.
  • Weber’s own page will not settle which grate arrives: One line in the spec block adds WEBER CRAFTED to the grate name. The feature copy beside it says only porcelain-enameled cast iron. The same page then sells a Crafted Frame Kit at $49.99 to get the collection started. Ask the seller what is in the carton before you count on the accessories.
The verdict

How we scored the Weber Genesis E-315 Gas Grill

Six categories on a fixed weighting, applied the same way to every grill. How we score.

Heat Performance 8.0
Weight 25%

Even heat is the whole claim, but 39,000 BTU over 513 square inches is not a dense fire.

Long-term Reliability 9.0
Weight 20%

Twelve years on cookbox and lid, ten on everything sitting in the fire, five under every remaining part.

Build Quality 8.5
Weight 18%

Porcelain-enameled lid and cast iron grates, stainless Flavorizer bars, painted steel doors, 162 pounds of cart.

Ease of Use 8.0
Weight 15%

Electronic ignition, six tool hooks and two fixed side tables, against an assembly job and 162 pounds.

Value 7.0
Weight 12%

The listed $899.00 buys area and warranty years, while the Crafted grillware that widens its range is charged separately.

Maintenance 7.5
Weight 10%

The grease tray pulls straight out, but chipped enamel corrodes and paint carries only two years.

Best for

  • Sunday Batch Cooks Weber counts 20 burgers or 17 steaks onto the primary grate. Every part of that field behaves like every other part. Load it edge to edge and nothing is stranded in a cool corner.
  • Buyers Who Read the Warranty Table Twelve years cover the cookbox and lid against rust through. Ten cover the burner tubes, the grates and the Flavorizer bars. Five years sit under everything else, which is the number most tables leave out.
  • Surface Swappers The Crafted Frame Kit opens this grill to pizza stones, griddles and Dutch ovens. You change what sits on the grate rather than what burns under it. If that appeals, the platform is the reason to be here.

Skip it if

  • You want the hot corner drawn for you Weber marks no sear area on this grate and boosts no burner. Every square inch gets the same offer. Making a cool side is your job, done with a knob rather than with a map.
  • You have a narrow gate or a tight patio Published width is 57.7 inches whether the lid is up or down. Open the hood and it wants 63 inches of height. At 162 pounds, moving it later is not a casual decision.

Bottom line

Buy the E-315 if you want one large surface that behaves the same everywhere. Weber drew no map on this grate, so you make the cool side yourself. The money goes into area and into years, and Weber puts both in writing.
