Delivery is the first real event, and Kamado Joe publishes nothing about it. No shipping terms appear on the standalone page. How 362.2 pounds of ceramic reaches the spot is left entirely open.
There is no assembly in the usual sense. Nothing bolts to anything, and no cart has to be built first. The whole job is a lifting problem, and it happens exactly once.
Then the grill has to go somewhere, and here the version shows its character. A cart version stands up by itself. This one does not. It waits on ceramic feet for a surface you have built or bought.
Set on something solid it looks superb. Red glaze catches the light across a dimpled ceramic shell. The stainless ash drawer sits low in the base. The Kontrol Tower vent caps the dome.
The first cook exposes the missing piece within a minute. Tongs go back in your hand, because nothing else will hold them. Nowhere for a tray, nowhere for a probe, nowhere for a beer.

Control is all air, and the tower is where most of it happens. Two adjustments sit on one cast aluminum vent. Open the dome and, Kamado Joe says, the vent forgets nothing. Without that, every lid lift would cost you the setting.
The 450 square inches want reading carefully. That is one circle 24 inches across, not a pair of stacked racks. Divide and Conquer arranges half-moon sections at two heights instead. You finish with two climates over one fire, not two grills.
Build, handling and durability
Strip the furniture away and the materials list gets shorter and better. Ceramic body, stainless grates, a stainless band latch, cast aluminum on the vent. The HDPE shelves that come with the cart version are simply not part of this purchase.
Handling is the other side of that trade, and it is not gentle. 362.2 pounds rests on ceramic feet with no frame spreading the load. Whatever it stands on carries that permanently, through every freeze and every thaw.
The dome is the one heavy thing you touch daily. The Air Lift hinge takes most of its weight off your hand. Without it, a lid of this diameter would be a genuine hazard.
Stability follows from the same geometry that causes the trouble. A wide ceramic base on low feet keeps the mass near the ground. Nothing about it rocks in wind, and nothing about it rolls away.
Running costs, upkeep and value
Pricing needs two passes, because list price and shop price disagree about which version is cheaper. Kamado Joe lists the Standalone at $2,199.99. The same page puts the cart version above it, at $2,299.99.
Amazon told a different story on the day we captured it. On 20 September 2026 the cartless BJ24NRHC showed around $2,151.61. The cart version showed around $1,935.12, from the same sweep, on the same day.
That is worth reading twice. The listing carrying a frame, four wheels and two folding shelves was the cheaper one. Anyone choosing this SKU to save money should compare both listings before ordering.
Then the extras begin, and none of them are small. The Big Joe charcoal basket costs $229.99. Big Block lump runs $34.99 a bag, and a grate lifter adds $18.99.
For 362.2 pounds of cooker, the weekly chore list is short. Cleaning is a drawer, pulled at the front, and then you are done. Stainless grates and the firebox both stay where they are. Without a cart underneath, that drawer sits low, so plan the surround height around it.
The gasket is the part that wears, and Kamado Joe covers it for two years. The ceramic is covered until the first owner sells or gives it away. Five years covers the metal. Heat deflectors get three.
None of it starts unless the grill was registered. Sell the grill and the cover ends with you. A commercial install gets one year on everything. That matters on a body sold for building in.

- The numbers are thinnest for the buyer who needs them most: The specification block gives 37 inches of height, and the maker’s own artwork gives 34. Depth appears only in that artwork, at 36 inches. Anyone cutting a surround needs those figures to be certain, and they are not.
