The Summit Kamado E6 is an enamelled steel kamado with a long rust warranty. Rust through on the bowl, lid and center ring is warranted for ten years. So why buy a cover for a shell that is already guaranteed to outlast most patios?
The answer sits lower down the warranty. Everything outside the shell and the ash system carries two years. The plastics carry five, with fading excluded.
Part 7173 is the polyester cover Weber cut for this grill. Its real job is guarding those shorter-lived parts. Does it do that well enough at $56.98, or at Weber’s own $84.99?

First Impressions of the Weber Summit Kamado Charcoal Grill Cover
Folded for shipping, the whole thing fits a carton only 6.7 cm deep. Shake it out and you have black polyester, unlined and unadorned. Its only decoration is a red and white logo patch. The cut follows the kamado: a rounded crown, straight sides, a hem dropping toward the casters.
The listing gives 1.5 lb. That lightness matters on a grill this tall. You lift it over a lid that sits 44.9 inches high when closed.
In Weber’s product shots the hem ends above the wheels. The grill can still roll with the cover on. Fastening straps sit at the base. Weber does not say how they close.
There is nothing on it beyond that. No pockets, no printed sizing chart, and no named lining.
Key Features of the Weber Summit Kamado Charcoal Grill Cover
There are only a handful of things to name here. What matters is which features Weber states and which it leaves to the buyer.
- Fitted pattern for two Summit grills. Weber names the Summit Kamado E6 and the older Summit Charcoal Grill. Nothing else.
- Water and UV resistant polyester. The Irish page lists the fabric as 100% polyester. Amazon adds “heavy duty” and “breathable”.
- Fastening straps. Weber’s own line is that they stop the cover from blowing into a neighbor’s yard.
- Spot clean only. No washing machine, which suits a cover this size anyway.
- Folds small. The carton measures 28.5 by 18.5 by 6.7 cm, so off-season storage takes a shelf corner.
- BBQ Cover. This is the cover named for the grill, rather than a universal sack sized by guesswork.
The gaps tell their own story. Denier, backing and handles go unmentioned.
Fit and coverage
A fitted cover is a promise about named grills, and Weber keeps this one narrow. The Summit Kamado E6 and the Summit Charcoal Grill are the only two it lists. Weber’s comparison chart on Amazon draws one more line: the E6 without side table. The S6, which adds the table, is sent to a different cover priced at $99.99.
Our catalogue matched this part to the E6, and the maker agrees. One retailer, AJ Madison, lists the 7173 against Performer kettles instead. Weber says nothing of the kind, so trust the maker.
Set the cover’s numbers beside the grill’s. Amazon gives 34 by 35.8 inches across and 43 inches tall for the cover. The E6 closed measures 34.8 wide and 35.8 deep, 44.9 tall.
So one axis reads 0.8 inches under the grill’s width. Neither source says how each was measured. That gap is unexplained, not proven. Weber’s photographs show the cover seated without strain.
The fit list also spans two generations. The older Summit Charcoal Grill and the current E6 share this one part number. If you replace a worn cover on the first, the same 7173 still applies.
Weather protection and durability
Here the spine pays off. The E6 enamel does not need this cover to survive. What it protects is the two year tier: moving parts, fittings and plastic trim. Fading on those plastics is the one thing their five year term excludes.
For that job, polyester described as water and UV resistant is a sensible choice. Amazon also calls it breathable, which should let moisture escape rather than sit against the steel. Weber never says waterproof and names no backing. Do not expect a sealed shell in a downpour.
Durability is the weaker story. Weber’s own pages are silent on denier, on stitching, and on any warranty.
The three year limited warranty appears only on the Amazon listing. Three years is ordinary for a cover. Still, it is a short promise sitting on a grill guaranteed for ten.
Handling, upkeep and value
Handling is where this cover is strongest. At 1.5 lb, one person can pull it on from the front in a single motion. The pull-on fit means no laces to thread. The straps add a step on windy evenings and none on calm ones.
Remember that the E6 comes without one. At $1,399.00 for the grill, Weber leaves the cover as a separate purchase. Bought alongside the grill from Weber, it costs Weber’s own figure.
Upkeep is spot cleaning only. A damp cloth handles pollen and bird droppings, then the cover air dries on the grill. It folds back into a slim carton for winter, if you bring the grill inside.
Value depends entirely on where you buy. Weber’s store asks $84.99. Amazon had the identical part 7173 at $56.98 on 2026-10-19, which is $28.01 less.
At the Amazon price, a Weber-cut shell for a $1,399.00 kamado is fairly priced. At Weber’s price, the premium buys a fabric nobody has described in numbers.
Possible Weber Summit Kamado Charcoal Grill Cover Complaints
- Fabric you cannot check. With no denier figure and no named backing, it cannot be compared with heavier aftermarket covers. You buy on Weber’s word, plus a three year term from a retail listing.
- Easy to buy for the wrong Summit. The E6 and S6 sit side by side in Weber’s range. Buy this for an S6 and the side table stays bare. Check for the table before ordering.
