A Classic Joe on its cart is an awkward thing to dress. There is a round ceramic egg with a vent cap on top. Below sits a wheeled cart, and a side shelf juts from each flank. Kamado Joe’s fitted cover for it, model KJ-GC23BWFS, has to deal with all four.
The maker’s own numbers frame the problem. The cover is 33 inches wide. A Classic I or II with its shelves out spans 46.2 inches.
Something on that grill stays outside the cover, or gets moved first. Which parts does it protect, and which does it leave to you? And is that trade worth the money?

First Impressions of the Kamado Joe Classic Joe Grill Cover
Draped over a grill, the cover reads as a tall black bell. A narrow chimney of fabric rises from the crown, topped with a loop handle. A white and red Kamado Joe logo sits on the shoulder.
Two thin red cords ring the body just below the widest point. Kamado Joe calls this piping decorative, and it is the only color on the thing.
From there the fabric drops straight past the cart frame. In every maker photograph, the casters peek out below the hem. No side shelf pokes out in any of them.
Down one flank runs a single webbing strap with a plastic side-release clip. That one buckle is the whole fastening system. The store lists it at 2.55 lb.
Key Features of the Kamado Joe Classic Joe Grill Cover
The feature list is short, and most of it serves the vent cap and the cart. Its length and its named fit list are what set it apart.
- Full-length cut: sized, in the maker’s words, so it also covers the cart. That is the job of this SKU.
- Vent cap sleeve: a fitted pocket rises over the top vent, so the cap is not crushed flat.
- Loop handle on top: gives you something to steer the cover by as it goes over the dome.
- One adjustable strap: webbing with a buckle, sold by Kamado Joe as what keeps the cover in place.
- Named compatibility: Classic Joe I, II and III on the maker’s chart. Other round 18 inch charcoal grills get a mention too.
- Waterproof and UV claims: stated by the maker, with “windproof and snowproof” added to the list.
- Cover: cut by Kamado Joe for its own Classic. The Big Joe gets a larger sibling.
Fit and coverage
Kamado Joe’s chart lists all three Classic generations, drawn on the cart with wheels. We have reviewed each one: the Classic I, Classic II and Classic III. The US page adds Konnected Joe and Pellet Joe. A Large Big Green Egg makes the list as well.
Now the arithmetic. The cover measures 33 inches wide and deep. The Series I and II measure 46.2 inches across, and the Series III 43.1 inches. All three generations carry folding side shelves.
In short, the cover is built for the egg and the cart, not the shelves. Kamado Joe never says what to do with them, and its photographs simply show none. Plan on lowering both shelves before the cover goes on.
Height tells a second story. The cover stands 48 inches tall. The Series I and II measure 47.6 inches, and the Series III measures 49.5. On a Series III, expect the hem to ride higher up the cart.
Table owners get a clear answer from the product line itself. For a Classic set into a table or built in, Kamado Joe sells a Dome Cover. This cart-length model has nowhere to fall on that setup.
Weather protection and durability
Kamado Joe lists four threats it says the fabric beats: water, wind, snow and sun. Ask what the fabric is, though, and you get three answers. The US page never names a fiber. Amazon’s title says polyester, and the details table beneath it says plastic.
Only Kamado Joe’s international store gets specific. It calls the cloth solution-dyed polyester, colored right through. It also claims fading will not happen. The US store is more careful and promises only to limit fading.
The gaps count for more on a Classic than on a steel grill. The ceramic shrugs off rain, but the vent cap and cart are metal.
No vent panel is described in the fabric. Nor is there a word on how the seams are finished. Damp trapped under a tall shell has only the metal to work on. Weather Protection lands at 7.1 for that reason.
Durability rests on less than the price suggests. Kamado Joe covers standalone accessories for two years against defects.
The fabric weight is not stated on any page. A single plastic clip anchors a shell as tall as the grill. Wind gets plenty of purchase on it.
Kamado Joe’s own store data also tags this cover as a closeout. No reason is given, so read nothing into it beyond checking stock.
Handling, upkeep and value
Getting it on is the moment a tall cover shows its height. The vent sleeve sits near the top of a 48 inch shell. Lift it high by the loop handle and lower it straight down. That beats wrestling an inside-out bag.
At 2.55 lb, it comes off easily too. Unclip the buckle, lift by the loop, and fold it over a lowered shelf. Then raise the shelves again and start the fire.
Kamado Joe sells it for $99.99 direct. Our Amazon price check on 2026-10-19 found $52.90, against that same list. At about half price, this maker’s cart-length cover is easy to justify. At full price it costs twice the Dome Cover, which skips the cart.
Possible Kamado Joe Classic Joe Grill Cover Complaints
- The shelves are on you. The cover is 33 inches wide, and the grill with shelves out is far wider. Kamado Joe does not say to lower them, but the numbers do. Leave a shelf up and it sits outside the cover, or the fabric strains over it.
- Thin weather documentation. Waterproof is promised; venting and seam finish are not covered at all. The listings cannot even agree on the material. After a soaking week, pull it off for a dry afternoon and let the metal breathe.
