The Gravity 800 is an awkward thing to cover. A tall hopper tower stands beside the cook chamber, and a shelf juts off the front. A universal bag either tents the whole lot or strains across the tower.
Comnova’s COGC-MB-GY-800-BLK is cut for that shape. The interesting part is its depth.
Its bullet gives 56 by 20.6 by 47 inches. That is the size of Masterbuilt’s original 800 cover. Masterbuilt has since replaced it with an 18 inch deep cover. That one is sold for the 600, 800 and 900 alike.
So which depth is right for an 800? And is the extra room a better fit, or just slack you pay less for?

First Impressions of the Comnova Gravity 800 Cover
Out of the bag, the shape gives the game away. One end rises in a squared block, and the rest drops to a lower, sloped top. That raised step is the hopper’s pocket, and it decides which way round the cover goes.
The cloth is black 600D Oxford with a PU coating. It feels soft and pliable for its weight, closer to a heavy jacket than a tarp. Comnova’s logo is printed in red near the top.
There is no handle on top. You lift it by the hem or the step itself. Hook and loop straps hang down the sides. A drawstring runs round the bottom edge.
One small flag appears before the cover goes anywhere. The listing says 56 inches wide, yet a gallery diagram prints 50. It also gives the depth as 20.6 in one place and 20 in another.
Key Features of the Comnova Gravity 800 Cover
Comnova sells this cover against Masterbuilt’s own, and says so. One gallery frame reads “Same with Size, Better than Original”. Here is what backs that up:
- A fitted step over the hopper: The top follows the tower and lid as two heights, not one flat roof.
- 600D Oxford with PU coating: Comnova layers a UV coating, a waterproof coating and the cloth. It pitches PU as softer and more breathable than PVC.
- A pressure figure: The gallery claims a water pressure test of at least 10048 Pa, dated 2022.
- A fade claim: Comnova says its UV test shows at least 3 years of UV aging.
- Three ways to hold on: An elastic hem, an adjustable drawstring and hook and loop straps.
- Double sewn seams: Shown in close up in the gallery.
- BBQ Cover: Comnova sells it in a five size family. The range runs from vertical smokers to the Gravity 1050.
Fit and coverage
The step is the whole case for a fitted cover here. On the Gravity 800, the hopper towers over the lid. A cover that copies that profile sits close everywhere. A universal leaves a hollow over the lid that fills with rain.
On a Gravity the stakes are higher. The hopper side carries the fan and the controller. A cover that rides loose there flaps against the parts you least want wet.
Depth is where the story turns. Masterbuilt’s first 800 cover, MB20080221, ran 20.6 inches deep. Its replacement, MB20080220, runs 18 and serves three grills. Comnova kept the deeper figure, which should make it easier to pull over the front shelf.
The case for the Gravity 600 is weaker. The bullets say the cover “also” fits the 560/600. Yet only the 800 sits in the compatibility field.
Comnova also sells a 560/600 cover at 55.7 by 17.9 by 47. On a 600, this 800 size is a fallback, and the spare depth turns to slack.
Weather protection and durability
Comnova leans on its coating. The 600D cloth carries PU, and Comnova lists a UV coating among its layers. The 10048 Pa figure is the most specific water claim here. No test method sits beside it.
Masterbuilt took another route. Its covers add a PVC liner inside, which it says also stops tearing.
Comnova argues the opposite: PU stays softer and breathes better. No breathability figure exists, and neither cover has a vent. Cover a dry grill.
Durability rests on the seams and straps. Doubled stitching is a good sign on a tall cover that wind loads hard. Hook and loop, though, clogs with grit and loses grip before the cloth does. Comnova states no warranty term, so there is nothing to fall back on.
Handling, upkeep and value
Putting it on is quick once you know the step goes over the hopper. Drop it, cinch the drawstring, then press the straps closed. Comnova asks you to wait 10 to 15 minutes after a cook before covering.
Upkeep asks little. The face cloth is quick drying, and dirt rinses off with plain water. With no handles, you fold it by hand for storage. Let it dry fully before it goes in a shed or garage.
Value is closer than it first looks. Masterbuilt asked $79.99 for its original 800 cover, now sold out. Its current cover is $69.99 direct. Amazon sold that same cover at $39.97 on 2026-10-20, about three dollars above Comnova’s $36.99.
So at Amazon the saving is small. The deeper cut is the real reason to choose it.
Possible Comnova Gravity 800 Cover Complaints
- The numbers do not agree: The width reads 56 in text and 50 in a diagram. The depth reads 20.6 and 20. If your 800 carries extra accessories, measure before ordering.
- Hook and loop over buckles: The straps work, but grit wears them down. Masterbuilt’s locking buckle is the sturdier closure on a windy patio. Brushing the strips clean now and then keeps their grip longer.
- No vent, no warranty: Trapped damp has nowhere to go, and no written term backs the cloth.
