Char-Broil makes the grills, so you might expect its own cover to name them. It does not.
This one is the Char-Broil Performance Grill Cover, 4 Burner Large, model CB1250037P8. It is sold by burner count, like any third party universal.
That puts it in a crowded aisle. Brands with no grills of their own sell covers of this size for less. So why pay a grill maker for a cover that fits like everyone else’s?
The short answer comes from Char-Broil’s own two pages. It is not a closer fit. It is a written warranty, a printed fabric figure and sealed seams.

On the listing it reads as a plain black shell. A darker panel caps the top, edged with a piped seam. A small Char-Broil tab sits near one corner. The face has a fine woven texture, closer to luggage than to a tarp.
The shape is a cart grill silhouette. It widens at shoulder height to clear side shelves, then falls plumb. Look for a vent flap or a handle loop and you will not find one.
The maker’s own photos tell a different story. Char-Broil’s own site now shows this part number differently. Its photos show a smooth face with a large white CB logo.
The page also renames it the Universal Large Grill Cover. The model number and the 62 inch width match. The look may simply have changed underneath one part number.
Char-Broil lists five features, and each one can be checked against the object. Here is what the cover brings.
- A stated envelope of 62 x 24 x 42 inches. Char-Broil and Amazon agree on all three figures.
- 18 mil polyester fabric. Char-Broil gives a gauge in mil, not a denier. Few cover makers print either.
- Sun fade protective liner. A coated backing sits behind the face fabric, meant to slow color loss.
- Sealed seams. The maker claims these resist water, though it names no test.
- Longer adjustable side straps. Char-Broil mentions no other way to hold it down.
- Soap and warm water cleaning. That is the whole care routine on the maker’s page.
What it lacks matters as much. Neither page mentions a vent, handles or a hem drawstring.
Fit and coverage
This cover fits by inches, not by burners. On Amazon, the claim is 3 to 4 burner gas grills up to 62 inches wide. Char-Broil’s own page says 3 to 6 burner grills.
Same model, same width, two different burner ranges. That disagreement tells you the burner count is a rough label.
The figure that decides it is 62. Against the universals we have reviewed, that is generous. iCOVER and GrillTough sell 58 inch shells, and Simple Houseware and Unicook stop at 55. A wide four burner cart with both shelves up is the grill this was cut for.
Width cuts both ways, though. On a narrow three burner, the spare cloth has to go somewhere. Side straps tug the flanks inward; the front and back hang free.
Run a tape from shelf tip to shelf tip first. Char-Broil names no model, and your tape measure is the only fit guide you get.
Weather protection and durability
Sealed seams are the detail that separates this from most budget universals. A stitched seam is a row of holes along the wettest line on the cover. Sealing them is the right fix, and Char-Broil states it on both pages. The sun fade liner adds a backing layer under the polyester face.
The gap is airflow. There is no vent. Warm damp air under the shell can only escape at the hem.
After a rainy week, lift the cover for an afternoon. Unicook sells a cheaper 55 inch universal that has two mesh vents.
Here, finally, the Char-Broil badge pays for itself. Char-Broil prints an 18 mil fabric figure and a one year limited warranty. Of the five third party universals we have reviewed, four print no warranty term. Classic Accessories states its term three different ways.
A plain one year promise from the grill maker is modest, but it is written down. Char-Broil does not publish what that warranty covers or excludes.
Handling, upkeep and value
Day to day, this is a two strap cover with nothing to grab. With no handles, you drape it from one corner, walk it around, then fasten the sides. On a 62 inch grill that is a reach, even at 3.8 to 4.2 pounds. Char-Broil and Amazon disagree on the weight, though both figures are light.
Cleaning is soap, warm water and time to dry. There is no hem cord to fight with when it comes off. That is the upside of having so little hardware.
At $34.08, against a $35.99 list, it sits mid pack among universals. It costs more than Simple Houseware or Unicook. It costs less than GrillTough at $39.99 or Classic Accessories at $44.99.
Char-Broil’s own Basic large cover was $10.00 on the same page. The extra money buys sealed seams, a printed fabric figure and a written warranty. Airflow, carry loops and a tighter drape are not part of the deal.
- It may hang loose on a smaller grill. The cover is cut 62 inches wide, and only two side straps take up slack. On a compact three burner, the hem can flap in a strong wind. A smaller size in the same family might sit tighter.
- Nothing lets damp out. With no vent, condensation collects under the shell in humid spells. Lifting it to air after heavy rain is the workaround.
